Have you ever seen a photograph or postcard of a beautiful pagoda with a waterfall behind it? The place is located in Nachi-san, this place not only beautiful landscape, but also has deep religious and historical significance.

Kumano Nachi Taisha (Shrine)
Kumano Nachi Taisha is the first temple of Kumano Sanzan (3 Kumano grand shrine), located in the Kii-Katsuura area, Wakayama prefecture.

Nachi Taisha area starting from Daimon-zaka, a series of stone steps that stretches from the valley up to the hillside, flanked by giant trees centuries old. Starting with Meoto-sugi, 800 years old "husband and wife couple cedar", and their roots entwined under the way.

Daimon-zaka means "giant gate" refers to a gate that was once there. This track is the shortest of Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, only about 600 meters away, by climbing 267 stairs. But short in distance doesn't mean it's an easy track... although less than 1km distance, but on average it takes 30 minutes and out of breath to go through it ^^

A loooot of stairs to the shrine ground
And the journey not finish yet... before reach Nachi Taisha ground, we still have to climb a loooot of stairs. The unique about this place is the presence of two temples side by side, one side is Nachi Taisha, a Shinto shrine, and right next to it is Seiganto-ji, a Buddhist temple.
